Wanderlust

This card comes from a drawer in an antique desk in a market in Puglia, Italy. I was actually looking for Tarot cards when the vender pointed me toward this deck. They have survived somehow, in tact, from the 1800. Although clearly exposed to water and covered in dirt, I loved the vibrancy and detail of the cards. I grew up playing cards with my family and I know that game playing is generally joyful, so I hope that these cards have, in some way, absorbed some of that positive energy.

The Queen of Hearts is notorious for proclaiming “off with their heads” from Alice in Wonderland. I would like to think of this queen as much more reasonable.
