The name "sapphire" comes from the Sanskrit word Sani. It is an aluminum oxide and belongs to the corundum family. Its color comes from iron and titanium. In Revelation, sapphire is named as one of the foundation stones of the New Jerusalem and it is said to have received protective power from Saturn. It was thought to have been honored by the gods during antiquity and kings and emperors followed suit. Sapphire is said to strengthen the wearer's willpower and gives him or her the strength to improve. The stone symbolized faith, loyalty and friendship and is linked to Pisces.
