I love a good coincidence. It makes me feel like perhaps there is something else – something on my team -- that I can’t see.
A few months ago I did a trunk show in Connecticut where I met a woman who wanted to buy one of my horseshoe bracelets for a friend.
This woman sent me information about the horseshoe bracelet recipient, a writer named Laura Munson. She included an Amazon link to her book, This Is Not The Story You Think It Is: A Season of Unlikely Happiness, a memoir about staying centered and sane during a trying time in her marriage. There is a big horseshoe on the cover, just like the ones I found in the Puglia markets this summer.
As I was reading the book, I noticed certain details that made me think of my friend Elizabeth, who, like Munson, a writer from Chicago that moved to Seattle for several years.
Munson now lives in Montana (I lived in Montana at one point in my life), and Elizabeth lives in Rome (where I met her ten years ago) and happened to be in The States for a few weeks.
I called Elizabeth and asked her if she had heard of a writer named Laura Munson.
It turns out that Elizabeth and Laura were neighbors in Seattle. Although they were never extremely close somehow (even before email) they managed to stay in touch over the last 20 years.
Elizabeth connected us and we have been in contact since, thinking about how we can perhaps join forces, hopefully in Italy as we are both pretty pazza for the place.
I am on the last pages of her book, and it has proven to be an amazing guide toward self-reliance, staying steady when your world gets shaky, which I think we can all relate to, married or not.
The book can be found at http://www.amazon.com/Laura-Munson/e/B0036DUFXA

Love this and love your work. Just read the account of this coincidence from Laura's point of view--too cool! I now have an excuse not to get to my writing for another few minutes as I peruse your jewelry.
What a marvelous story. As a poet and a writer myself, I am in love with story. This one reminded me of how I met the love of my life. Our fathers had know each other for over twenty years. I knew his father; he knew mine. Dan (my love) and I had never met until both parents were living in the same city and my folks and I were invited to his folks for Christmas dinner. That was 43 married years ago. Lovely.
Absolutely beautiful bracelet and such a touching story.
Thank you for sharing the small world and coincidence.
When we are observant we notice the treasures of other
people and what they give to us. I can't think of a more
perfect bracelet for you. My favorite color is orange also.
Hang in there! Best, Sharley
I am a friend of Laura's, though we have never met. I read an article about her book, then bought it, then wrote to her because it moved me so much. We really like get each other and I hope to meet her in person one day soon. I am in love with this bracelet and it really couldn't be more perfect for her. Do you have a website? For heaven's sake, I just realized I'm ON your website. I'd love to look at other things of yours, and will now. -Alison
I was so inspired by the small world article I just read - I clicked on the picture to see it. Stunning. I am a forty seven year old version of you probably ten years ago (not in age but in progress) I make these things and people love them but each one is different and I can't figure out a way to "launch" my line because it is all custom, one of a kind. Would you be willing to look at my pieces (particularly the embroidered earrings) on my gallery and give me your guidance? Thanks! Dana Koenig. (my gallery is www.got-rox.com)
i LOVE it. love the bracelet, love the story....i, too, read laura's book--twice--in a row. and contacted her myself to tell her how meaningful it was to me. i even called in on a chat line to ask her a few questions. so although we've never met, i feel like she is a friend (she even said we were "kindred spirits"!)
thank you for sharing your story and your beautiful bracelet!
Aaaaah, yes. The world of coincidence. What a lovely woman that Laura is. She'll be our keynote speaker at the launch of Body and Sol - Old Pueblo Women's Expo May 3-5 at Casino Del Sol in Tucson. My biz partner Kellie and I have gotten to know and love Laura via emails and phone calls. And of course from her book. Can't wait to meet her in person and share her heart-opening words with thousands of women in Tucson who'll be attending this premier women's expo.
I just moved from Seattle to Tucson 2 years ago. Made Seattle our home for 19 yrs. And Kellie lived on Bainbridge Island for a number of years. I met her here in Tucson. Perhaps it's the magic of Seattle that binds us?
Love your work. And how perfect that Laura gets to wear your beautiful bracelet.
I can definitely offer any information that I have! Just email me at Jessica@JLRiccillc.com.
Best,
Jess
